Why a Spinson deposit is declined

A refused deposit is rarely the casino rejecting you. Most declines happen at the bank or card issuer, one or two come from rules the operator applies, and one is UK law applying to every licensed gambling site equally. Working out which is which is what makes the difference between fixing it in a minute and trying the same failing card four times.

The cause that is not fixable: credit cards

Since April 2020 it has been unlawful for a UK-licensed operator to accept a credit card as a way of funding a gambling account. Spinson accepts Visa and Mastercard as debit cards only, and no support conversation will change that. If the card you are using is a credit card, the decline is the rule working as intended rather than a fault. The payment methods page lists the routes that are available instead.

Causes that sit with your bank

A gambling block. Most UK banking apps now include a switch that refuses gambling transactions, and many are on by default. It is the single most common reason a perfectly valid debit card fails at a casino. Turning it off usually carries a cooling-off period of up to 48 hours before it takes effect, which is deliberate.

A fraud check. An unfamiliar merchant, an unusual amount or a first transaction of this type can trigger an automated block. These often clear with a confirmation in the banking app.

Insufficient available balance, including where a pending transaction has reduced what is actually available below what the balance appears to show.

None of these is visible to the casino. Spinson sees a refusal code, not the reason behind it, which is why support often cannot say more than that the payment was declined.

Causes that sit with the method

Paysafecard has a £250 deposit ceiling, so an attempt above that fails by design. It is also a voucher: the code carries a fixed value, and a deposit larger than the remaining value on it will not go through.

A wallet with no funding source. PayPal, Skrill and MuchBetter pass the request to whatever sits behind them. If that underlying card or bank account declines, the wallet declines, and the failure looks like a wallet problem when it is a card problem one layer down.

What to try, in order

  1. Confirm the card is a debit card, not a credit card.
  2. Open your banking app and check for a gambling block before anything else.
  3. Check the amount against the method — £250 is the ceiling on vouchers, and the welcome offer needs £20 to qualify.
  4. Try one alternative route rather than the same one repeatedly. Repeated attempts on a blocked card can trigger a longer lock.
  5. If a wallet failed, check the funding source behind it.

When money has left your account but the balance hasn’t moved

This is usually an authorisation hold rather than a completed payment: the bank has earmarked the amount while the transaction resolves, and it drops off if the payment did not complete. Before depositing again — which risks paying twice — check whether the amount shows as pending rather than settled on your statement, then contact Spinson’s support with the date, time, amount and method. Attempting a second deposit while the first is unresolved is how people end up with two charges to untangle.

One thing worth not doing

A declined deposit is a poor moment to go looking for another way to pay. The block in a banking app exists because someone chose to switch it on, and the credit card rule exists because borrowing to gamble multiplies the harm. If a refusal prompts an urge to find a route around it, the responsible gambling page covers the account limits and the free UK services that sit outside the operator, including GAMSTOP.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my card declined at Spinson?
The most common causes sit with the card rather than the casino: a credit card, which UK rules have barred for gambling since April 2020, a gambling block switched on in your banking app, or the bank's own fraud check on an unfamiliar merchant.
Can I use a credit card at Spinson if my debit card fails?
No. Credit cards cannot be used to fund gambling accounts anywhere in the UK, at Spinson or any other licensed operator. The rule has applied since April 2020 and there is no way around it.
The money left my account but the balance is empty. What now?
That usually means an authorisation is being held rather than a completed payment. Check whether the amount shows as pending on your bank statement, and contact support with the date, amount and method before attempting a second deposit.
